Where can I register domains?

You can register domains in the menu Domain of the customer interface. In the course of the domain registration, you are automatically registered as Admin-C. The same goes for name server registrations, which refer to your server. In you customer interface you can conduct respective change provider applications. A fax form is generated automatically in this interface, which you can download, fill in and fax or send by mail. That way, you are spared some work, because you don't have to prepare a fax yourself.

Where can I make registrations in the name server?

When you order a domain in the menu Domain of your customer interface, your ordered domain will be registered automatically in our name servers.

How can I have my server rebooted?

ou can have your server rebooted any time free of charge and fully automatic, 24 hours a day on seven days a week. Just click one button, and your server will be rebooted within seconds.

How do I manage my server?

Our servers are either based on Linux or Windows. Various utilities (daemons) are run on the servers. You have three options for your system administration:
[1] SSH/Telnet: You have full access to your server, that is, you have 100 percent control of every software on the server. Of course, you can install and use further software anytime!
[2] Plesk: Plesk has been developed especially for the needs of professional hosting service providers and IT professionals. According to the manufacturer, it offers the most comprehensive range of features as compared to competitors. Plesk is available for Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS and Windows.
[3] cPanel: cPanel is a web-based graphical Control Panel with a wide range of features for quick and easy management of your websites and hosting accounts (available at extra cost for CentOS 6).

Do I get full root access?

You get full root access for your server and can do with it what you like without any limitations (as long as it's not against the law).

How can I reach your Support in case of any problems?

Every day between 7 a.m. and midnight, our basic support hotline is available for free. Here, our experienced staff will record you request in a ticket and hand it over to the Second Level Support. The latter will contact you then shortly by e-mail and give you assistance for your problem.
Moreover, you can contact our Second Level Support directly with an e-mail ticket. If you have selected PlatinumSupport, you can make use of a free phone hotline, which connects you directly with our experienced system adiministrators. Please do not call our sales team, because they can not give you assistance.

What happens in case of a server failure?

If your server is no longer available after a reboot, you can contact our technicians by e-mail ticket or phone.

What happens in case of a hardware failure??

If you have detected a hardware failure of your server, please contact our Support over the basic hotline or by support ticket. Our team will attend to it then, to get your server back online as soon as possible.

Can I order a reinstallation of the server?

This is no problem. In many cases it makes more sense to restore the server completely instead of wasting much time for searching for problems. If you wish a reinstallation of your server, you can order it in your customer interface. A restore is free for all server packages.

What may I install on my server?

Everything. Without exception! You have full root access on your server and thus may install everything, as long as it is not against the law.

Who is responsible for the server security?

You are solely responsible. Unfortunately, we can take over no responsibility for current and future security leaks.

How may I understand the traffic flat rate. Can I really use unlimited traffic?

Yes, with your Dedicated Server you can use an unlimited amount of traffic without further cost. Please note, however, that we can guarantee no connection bandwidth and reserve the right to limit the bandwidth in singular cases.

Can I order more IPs?

You can order up to three additional IP addresses in your PowerPanel.

How can I test the speed of Server4You?

Just make a traceroute or ping to test our speed:

What are the payment conditions?

We accept the following payment methods: Credit card, direct debit (only possible with German bank account), PayPal with debit order. All charges are debited in advance in monthly intervals.

What are the minimum contract terms of Server4You?

1) With all offers before November 19, 2010 you were able to choose between a 1, 12 or 24 months contract. The contract term is prolonged automatically for additional 12 months at a time, if it is not cancelled at least three months before the end of term.

2) Since November 20, 2010 only contracts with one month term are offered. Monthly contracts can be cancelled any time to the end of the month.

What are the costs for further domains with Virtual Servers?

You can order as many domains for your VPS as you like.

The minimum contract term for domains is 12 months; the charges are due for 12 months in advance according to the annual fee. Since every virtual server has a static IP, you can also order domains with every other registrar.

How can I conduct name server registrations?

A name server entry is automatically conducted for every domain that is registered by us for our customers. However, Server4You offers no further name server services.

How can I have my VPS rebooted?

You can reboot your virtual server 24/7 without charge in your customer interface. Just click one button, and your server will be rebooted within seconds.

Will I get full root access for my virtual server?

You will get full root access on your VPS and can carry out installations and system enhancements as desired. The only thing you cannot do is recompile the kernel.

How can I reach the Support in case of problems?

Should you have any problems with your server, our Support will be ready to assist you by phone or the e-mail ticket system. The Support's phone number can be found at the contact page.

What happens in case of a breakdown of my VPS?

If your virtual server is not available anymore after a reboot, you can inform our technicians by e-mail or phone. We will bring your server back to life as soon as possible.

Can I order a reinstallation of the server?

This is no problem. In many cases it makes more sense and it's cheaper to restore the server completely than to research for the cause for a long time. If you should want a restore of your virtual server, you can order it in your customer interface. A reinstallation is free of charge and will be conducted within a few minutes after the order was placed.

What am I allowed to install on my VPS?

Everything. Without exception! You have full root access on your server and thus may install everything, as long as it is not against the law.

Who is responsible for the server’s security?

How can I view the used traffic of my virtual server?

You can see anytime in the traffic menu of your customer interface how much traffic has been used, so that you can always keep an eye on the costs.

Can I get further IPs?

For all Virtual Private Server offers you can order up to three additional IPs in your Server4You PowerPanel.

I forgot my password. How do I get a new password for the customer interface?

After you have tried to login three times with wrong data, an interface will appear, which will help you to order your new access data.

Can another user cause a crash of my virtual server?

No, this is not possible. Every VPS is run in a particular Sandbox environment and can not influence the servers of other users or cause them to crash.

Can I rent further disk space for my server?

Unfortunately, this is not possible.

Can I setup a game server on my VPS?

This is generally possible. However, we can give you no guarantee that the software runs faultlessly. Applications that cause a high basic load during the whole execution and use many resources (like game servers) can be run on a VPS, but do not perform in an optimal way. A dedicated server may be the better choice here.

Is Java already installed?

Due to legal licensing reasons, it is not possible for us to preinstall Java. The company SUN demands the end users license agreement. Since you are the end user being the server administrator, however, you have the possibility to install Java yourself.

What is the minimum contract term of my Virtual Private Server?

All new VPS offers currently have a contract term of 1, 12 or 24 months. With 12 or 24 months, you have to cancel at least three months before the term ends, because otherwise it will be prolonged automatically for another 12 months. Monthly contracts can be cancelled any time to the end of the month.

How do I pay for my Virtual Private Server?

You can choose between credit card, PayPal (with debit order), and direct debit payment (only possible with German bank account). You are billed in monthly intervals for monthly contracts, and 12 months in advance for 12- or 24-month contracts.
